This past weekend I had my foray into the world of anime fandom. The stage? Fanime 2007 @ the San Jose Convention Center. I went due to “losing” a bet to Tobias as can be read about in the first ever post on inkless. Well, he ended up not picking any costumes for me after realizing the bet benefited his health. I have to say I didn’t really lose that much since it was a very, interesting experience to say the least.
Notice my awesome 55 dollar entrance pass and the photoshopped out name. “Hosmotch” was supposed to be my fanime name, but Tobias just put that there. It’s a curse word Tobias and I made up when we were young – long story short, it is quite insulting in that inside joke kinda way.
Reader beware – this is going to be a ginormous post. Take the jump, if you dare.
Summer has started and I’ve been bored to death. Other than fanime (which I will post about in a sec), I’ve been absolutely overwhelmed with the stressless void that is late May. I know I may be insane for being overwhelmed with the lack of stress, but that is just how it is.
So I’m watching random television tonight and I go through PBS, which is usually showing something random and sadly, boring, but low and behold I see this great show called Independent Lens come on and feature a documentary I’ve always wanted to see: The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill.
Review after the jumpy.
I really need to stop watching the NBA, it’s probably not too good for my ethics. This post is going to contain a lot of basketball terminology, just as a warning.
I’m an avid Suns fan, so even though what I say is a bit biased, I do think that the NBA is wrong in their decision making lately. The Suns came back from a seemingly unsurmountable deficit in Game 4 of the Western Semis to beat the Spurs 104-98. As impressive as that was, the final 18 seconds saw something even more incredible (in the negative sense).
Nash is taking the ball down court with the Suns up 3. He dodges one fall and sprints down the sidelines. Robert Horry, a veteran on the Spurs known for his consistent clutch shooting, is in front of him. I think he’s gonna do the very easy to do, normal, non-violent, grab the player kind of intentional foul. However, to my disgust, he hip-checks Nash into the statistics tables on the sideline. Here it is:
More after the jump.
Today our apartment had our end of the year party that had been postponed way too many times. It was both a final get together and a way of sending Chris off (he’s graduating) and for me, Carlos as well, (he’s going to Argentina and I’m not going to be here for the spring).
I always complain about the shabby quality of Berkeley folk and how so many of the kids here I just cannot stand. However, today was one of those “glass-half-full” kinda days. Thought this school does have its share of idiots and greedy bastards, the good people I have met are absolutely astounding – not in number, but just in quality.
More of the same after the jump.
So Conan’s in the city right now. His show has completely taken over SF – its been all over the radios and the streets. The show tonight has been awesome!
First of all, he mentions Sam Wo’s Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown with a HUGE banner. It’s such a random small SF establishment and it’s great that he mentioned it. I wonder how the small staff of old Chinese people are going to handle all the publicity they just got. The restaurant only has seating for maybe … 12. Haha.
I mentioned the place when I went there to eat one Spring Break early morning. (I mistakingly just called it SanHe).
He also has a hilarious video ad for the place.
He then talks about the Warriors’ destruction of the Mavs (hell yes!) and then … BOOM Baron Davis and Jason Richardson come out and give the crowd those “We Believe” shirts. Wow, just .. wow.
Yep, that’s all folks – just too entertaining to not post about. Hah!
