Take six minutes of your otherwise maniacal lives and take a look at this:
It’s an academy-award nominated film by Mark Osborne that was shown to me in my ethics class today. The music really kicks it off and it does not let you go until the end. It tells the tale of something very familiar and yet he tells this story in a very creative fashion.
I’ll let the video dominate the summary, but I have some words about it after the jump.
I have an internship down in L.A. for 2 months in the summer with TOMS shoes (end of May to mid June and August, full month). At first, the company offered a nice two-story condo out near Santa Monica for us interns but little did I know, all the other interns are girls. Due to liablity, (as if I’m going to pull anything they’ll be liable for) I have to find my own abode. Jaeman is flaky as usual and so I was wondering…
DO ANY OF YOU KNOW OF ANY HOUSING IN L.A. THIS SUMMER?*
*that is cheaper than the ridiculous 1000 dollars for a single room I’ve been seeing. I’m going to be around the Playa Vista area near Loyola Marymount. Please, please, please leave a comment if you have anything. Thanks!
Wow. What a packed last couple of days. First of all, it was the weekend where my mentorship club has our yearly IAM Retreat. This year, we had about 21 disadvantaged high schoolers come from all around California. Some kids even came from Southgate down in SoCal and took the bus for 8 hours each way, DAMN.
They came on Friday and immediately I knew this was going to be a good group of kids. They sat through some lectures and then we had our faculty luncheon. I had the pleasure of talking to one of our Sociology professors about the current education system for a long while. She talked about how the No Child Left Behind act was greatly depressing in the fact that it pointed out the issues of our education system, but failed to fund it adequately. Educational funding … always promised, never delivered. Professor Muller (who teaches Physics for Future Presidents) came in also. He is a good foot and a half taller than he seemed in lecture. He brought in an asteroid to pique the kid’s interest. Wonderful guy, really.

I find it quite the nice little graphic, very interesting to look at and think. I suppose I sit in the second panel right now, well, minus the rosy scene. I think it’s the best of the four (though adulthood is kinda unrepresented here). Nonetheless, it just remind us about the inevitability of life. We better remember our time during this phase cause that next stage is just around the corner.
‘Tis all.

One day in high school, Nate said: “we need to start a street racing group.” At that time, we all drove 90 horsepower beaters – not that there’s anything wrong with them. Thus, JOUF was born in Ahmed’s pre-calculus class one day. Jaeman was designated wheel supplier, as we all dreamed of the day when we would own worthy vehicles. JOUF actually stands for “Jammin’ On yoUr Face.” (JOYF is definitely a sub-par acronym.) Why did we name ourself something so insane with no relation to any kind of car lingo? Well, ’cause Nate said it with vigor and we all laughed our asses off. Simple as that.
Now, we don’t really street race and I think we’re more of a parody of any kind of illegal street gang. However, we do love our cars. We don’t segregate the American and the Japanese models either! Today was a nice day to head to Treasure Island off the Bay Bridge and snap some shots. Without further ado, drink em up! [Mine's the shiny black Evo =)]

In the college world, the World of Warcraft, (WoW) is a commonly known lifestyle game. It carries both a stigma of digital addiction as well as an entrance to a reserved group of people. In a blog partially about college, it has to be mentioned. You would really be blown away by how many people and the variety of people who play this game. Blizzard entertainment has cleverly found the goldmine of online gaming and it will milk this thing to the very end.
We’ve all heard the stories about insanity surrounding this game in Asia. For instance take this and this article about deaths directly related to prolonged time spent playing this game. Here’s a story about a suicide related to the game.
However, what about the home front?
I used to be a WoW player, so here’s my take for both the addicts and the uninformed.
I’ve had recent high school seniors ask me about Cal and my experience. Why they ask me, I have no idea – its probably more productive to ask the Campanile itself what it thinks of the school.
It did get me thinking about the whole college experience so far though. First of all, it has been an awesome transition from that terrible high school. It’s a reaffirmation of the human race as a species that has any potential for intelligence. Therefore, it is really unfair to compare it to any kind of CV high school experience. Really, this requires an objective article but alas, objectivity is impossible!
So, here’s my subjective two years of college after the jump!
The Student Government elections are on – hide.
I keep getting stopped by these damn candidates trying to get elected into the ASUC program. They physically get into your path and try to shake your hand while grinning so unnaturally they might as well have been holding “I’m trying to buy your soul” signs.
So, trying to be less of an jackass than before, I shake their sweaty hands and walk a bit slower. Mistake of mistakes. They begin to ramble, dropping buzzword after buzzword of obviously neutral statements. They turn that overly soft fake voice on:
My goals include trying to promote career awareness for the student body. After all, we are all trying to get jobs in the future right? HAHAHAHA!
Response and more after the jump.
Last time we left off with more of the same. Well, the other half of spring break has been … more of the same with spurts of genius. Tobias and I just played some house tag this week, basically. He came over after I went to his house and we played some massive basketball. We played with some old folk who had apparently only shot threes their entire lives and two young’uns who just set picks for each other and shot. Honestly, not so fun when a team sport becomes a tandem dance.
When it was only our group, the competition was fierce as hell. People got cut, punched and pushed. Jaeman managed to rip my thumb all the way back to the back of my hand after he reached in during a crossover. Wonderful. In addition, I suffered a twisted ankle (remedied immediately by an ankle brace) and some random cuts.
Pain and all, that’s the best kind of basketball if you ask me – competitive and beautiful.
Drive left, cross, stop-step, take the jump – shot!
